MBA – Scientific Degree in Management

Movements towards globalisation have become the most important and universally recognised factors in the business world today. Market and competition forces have changed in such a way that managers are forced to alter their manner of reacting to and/or solving encountered problems.

Lack of the ability to adapt to the growing turbulence and the uncertainty of the environment lead to low development, stagnation and finally to ruin. Times of change face us with new challenges, demanding not just new knowledge but new people who are capable of meeting such challenges.
The Faculty of Economics Rijeka has always adapted successfully to the demands of time, adjusting its curricula, on all academic levels to the newest trends in economic theory and practice, as well as to the demands of the economy of the moment. Competency in management, without which there is no integration into contemporary development trends, plays an important role in this transformational process.
The curriculum of the ninth cycle of the MBA – Scientific Degree Management is based on the tradition of education established during the past eight generations of MBA – Management students. It is structured according to the principles and tradition of such studies in Europe and the USA and concurrently designed to meet the needs and requirements of the managers in Croatian economic environment.

The mission of the programme is to create and train young scientists and professionals working in enterprises, banks, educational institutions, science, culture, health, sport, public services, government institutions etc. This programme is aimed not just at those with a B.A in economics, but also at those who encounter management problems in their professional lives, due to the wide scope of implementation of the knowledge acquired.

Applicants with an average grade lower than 3.5 (B) can be accepted with references of two teachers or scientists. Graduates from different faculties can be accepted, but during the first year, they have to pass the exam “Fundamentals of Economics”

The programme is organised into four semesters. The fourth semester is designed for the individual supervised work on the Master thesis. Each semester lasts for three months and classes are held according to schedule. Teaching methodology consists of lectures, seminars, workshops, individual consultations with the professors or supervisor (Mentor), role- playing and case studies both from literature and real-world business environment from which the candidates come.
After completing all the requirements and successfully defending the Master thesis, the student obtains an academic degree M.Sc. in economics, field management.

WORKSHOPS

Several workshops will be organised during the course of study to additionally help the students in meeting the challenges they will face.

SEMINARS

Seminars are intended to deal with the most current issues in the management world. Seminar work will be done in teams as field projects in certain enterprises or as individual projects. The objective of seminar teaching is testing acquired knowledge in real life situations. Student will work in teams and in coordination with an appointed supervisor. The projects are comprised in three phases: analysis, establishment and solution proposal to the problem. The final step is project presentation in front of the professor and colleagues or in front of the managerial board of the enterprise, bank or organisation. We are constantly pressured by changes. However, the greatest danger for the economy is not the uncertainty these changes bring but activities based on outdated knowledge.
