About CHEP

The Center for Health Economics and Pharmacoeconomics (CHEP) was established in 2020 at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Rijeka with the aim of developing the research and policy-making in healthcare in Croatia and the region. 

Through its work, the Center for Health Economics and Pharmacoeconomics:
- contributes to the theoretical and practical understanding of key elements of public health systems;
- develops and implements economic tools in the healthcare decision-making system, contributing to transparency and systematic decision-making;
- using key analytical methods, develops economic evaluations and profitability models of investments in health technologies (medicines, aids, public health interventions);
- applies the methods of surveying preferences in health care and works to improve the role of patient and citizen preferences in the creation of health policy at the national and local level;
- conducts scientific research through projects financed by renowned institutions, such as the Croatian Science Foundation and the European Social Fund;
- contributes to building a framework for improving the role of economists in the creation of health policy and management in health care, as well as the implementation of an economic perspective and tools in discussions about criteria for deciding on the profitability of investments in health care, prioritization of limited financial resources, management of processes, institutions and human capital as well as health financing;
- analyzes the effectiveness of healthcare, measures and evaluates treatment outcomes and assesses the quality of healthcare
- leads postgraduate study program "Health Economics - MBA" in cooperation with the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb;
- provides tailor-made education designed for the individual needs of industry and the public health sector;
