The course intention is to give students the modern knowledge about negotiating and also to teach them how to use that knowledge in everyday business practice. The need for negotiating becomes important in business relations between buyers and suppliers, partners, colleagues, but also in superior and inferior relations and in the relations with governmental, public or international institutions. Learned knowledge and skills about principles, strategies, business and negotiating tactics will be used for more successful negotiation leading and achieving better positions of negotiators than the opposite side. The efficiency of the negotiating technique will be studied through practical examples from everyday business practice.

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to theoretical issues of cost accounting, and gaining techniques and methods as planned by the course content. Within the seminar and workshop framework, students gain some competence in accounting processes in cost accounting, accounting of production, applying costing methods to calculating costs allocation to cost centres and cost objects, standardization of inputs costs, and other aspects of cost concept application in business performance.

Corse objectives: The objective of the course is to give students theoretical knowledge on definition and functions of the financial markets and financial institutions. Emphasis is put on defining money market and capital market, as well as on international financial market and financial market of the EU. The course structure encompasses tax systems and politics of developed and transition countries, with the emphasis on the EU member states as well as their comparison with the Croatian tax system and policy. All chapters are comparative and some case studies are added. The content follows: Taxes as percentage of GDP and tax structure. The tax base of direct taxation: income or consumption; standard and alternative model. Personal income tax: labor income taxation, capital income taxation; Integration of personal and corporate income tax. Corporate income tax: tax base and rates, tax incentives and FDI. Social security contributions. VAT: basic elements, effects, trends, EU harmonization. Excise and environmental taxes. Property taxation: property taxes (taxes on net wealth and immovable property); inheritance and gift taxes. International double taxation and its avoidance. Tax harmonization/coordination in the EU. Harmful tax competition: EU (Code of conduct, State aid, CCCTB), OECD. International information sources about tax systems (regular editions, web pages).

Short term securities: treasury bond, certificate of deposit, commercial bill, banker’s acceptance, check, bill of exchange. Long-term securities: bonds, equities, investment coupons (certificates).


Derivatives: floating rate notes, zero coupon bonds, dual currency bonds, convertible bonds, bonds with warrants attached, options, swaps, futures. Methods of analyzing securities: methods of bonds analysis, methods of equity analysis, methods of derivatives analysis. Securities in the world markets, European Union, transition countries and in the Republic of Croatia. Risk of investment in securities: interest rate risk, default risk, purchasing power risk, market risk, currency risk, political risk, country risk and other factors of risk. The course structure encompasses tax systems and politics of developed and transition countries, with the emphasis on the EU member states as well as their comparison with the Croatian tax system and policy. All chapters are comparative and some case studies are added. The content follows: Taxes as percentage of GDP and tax structure. The tax base of direct taxation: income or consumption; standard and alternative model. Personal income tax: labor income taxation, capital income taxation; Integration of personal and corporate income tax. Corporate income tax: tax base and rates, tax incentives and FDI. Social security contributions. VAT: basic elements, effects, trends, EU harmonization. Excise and environmental taxes. Property taxation: property taxes (taxes on net wealth and immovable property); inheritance and gift taxes. International double taxation and its avoidance. Tax harmonization/coordination in the EU. Harmful tax competition: EU (Code of conduct, State aid, CCCTB), OECD. International information sources about tax systems (regular editions, web pages).
